Problem with amount of memory (linux system)

Dear All!
I have a trouble with memory allocation. Our system has 24GB of RAM and 2 processors(Xeon E5506). Firefly accepts MWORDS value of 450 or less (this stands for 3.6 GB) even when computation is going on one core. Is it possible to use all available memory?Thanks in advance and
