Using Phenom II X4 with only 2SSDs: how to increase the performance of disk subsystem?

Hello, all!

Finally I've got a new workstation based on AMD Phenom II X4 Processor. Unfortunately, I'll have to use only 2SSDs (128Gb each) (besides SATA HDD for the system and data files) connected to SATA II ports of motherboard. I am going to install Ubuntu 9.10 amd64 and format all the storages into reiserfs (I suppose, using xfs or jfs will hardly differ the permormance)
So I have several alternatives about making disk subsystem:
1. Make 2 separate filesystems on each SSD, so each process will have its files in the separate filesystem (I suppose this will be the best choice).
2. Just make 2 directories on each SSD.
3. Make RAID of these 2SSDs and create the only filesystem with 4 directories.

What do you think about all this?
