Re: MWORDS limits

Hi,

The maximum amount of memory available to
PC GAMESS/Firefly under any version of Windows
via MWORDS or MEMORY variables is about or less than
2 GB (i.e., 268 MWORDS maximum, as word is 8-byte value).
This does not mean that PC GAMESS is limited to 2 GB of RAM
under any Windows, it can use and typically uses more memory
if needed; however this memory is not used directly for
calculations but rather servs as the pool for varius I/O
buffers, BLAS level 3 working storage, etc...

Be careful to not allocate more memory (via MWORDS)
than you have physically installed on your system!

Regards,
Alex

If I set MWORDS to a value grater than 268, I get an error saying that the memory is unavailable. (Under XP 32 bits, I found similar limit, but around 240 MWORDS). I increased also the RAM to 2GB, but I got the same error.
