Here are the messages I got from cluster support, when I asked for the Firefly installation:
"The transition from 32-bit to 64-bit happened back in 2003. Our cluster are pure 64-bit systems since 2009. We do not support 32-bit applications anymore since then."
They have considered installing compatibility libraries for some time, but very soon I got another message:
"I discussed the issue with the 32-bit binaries with my colleagues and we came to the conclusion that we can not support 32-bit binaries on the cluster".
That was it. I have managed however to install Firefly on the home-build cluster within my group, but it is quite old and may not live for much longer. Also I still have some problems with parallelization, so I am running it on a single node, but in principle it works. I was just considering other options.
Best regards,
Alexandra
